Boys' Cross Country

2012 Season Recap

The boys’ cross country team made another series of significant steps in building the program to compete on a higher level.  For just the second time in program history, the team placed four runners in the top 15 at the sectional and for the first time placed three runners in the top 15 at the regional.  In the state series, the team finished second in the sectional and third in the regional, advancing to semi-state for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons.  The team also captured multiple invitational titles – the Pendleton Heights Invitational and the Flashrock Invite (invitational division) – for the first time since 2006.  In addition, the team defeated archrival Warren Central for the first time in over 15 years.  Seniors Daniel Buergler and James Perry were named team co-Most Valuable Runners.  Both Buergler and Perry earned All-Sectional and All-Regional honors.  Juniors Austin O’Gara and Walter Dearing both ran to All-Sectional honors and sophomore Nathan Schoettle was named All-Regional.  Perry, fellow senior Jack Hosty and junior Michael O’Connor were all named first team Academic All-State and Dearing was named honorable mention All-State.  Hosty won the team’s Mental Attitude and Leadership awards and Buergler won the team’s Sportsmanship award.
