Roncalli Boys' Soccer

2007 Boys' Soccer Season Review

The 2007 Season for the Roncalli Boys Soccer Team was an exciting historical one.Things didn't start off quite the way that the team was hoping for; losing the first game of the season to rival Cathedral, but the boys rebounded quickly winning 5 out of their next 6 matches including advancing to the Hoosier Cup Finals, which was the first time in team history. The team continued to have much more success after the Hoosier Cup Tournament winning many regular season games. Another high point or benchmark for the team came with a win over #5 ranked North Central in the Marion County Tourney resulting in advancing to the Marion County Tournament finals another first for the program. The team took a tough loss to the #2 ranked Lawrence Central Bears in the finals, but then went onto win 11 out of their last 12 games. The boys soccer team really turned it on at the end of the season for the IHSAA State Tournament winning their second consecutive Sectional over Lutheran and going on to win their first ever Regional Title over New Palestine. The team would eventually lose to Zionsville in the first round of Semi-State capping off a record breaking season of 19-5-0.These records included: a new record for wins:19, a new record for the Marion County and Hoosier Cup Tournaments: getting to the finals of each, winning Sectionals for a second year in a row, and winning Regionals for the first time in school history. Many thanks go out to all the parents and Roncalli faculty that supported the team for this wonderful season. Much appreciation and thanks must also go to the 10 great seniors that helped guide the team to such an amazing run. The coaching staff wishes you the best in all that you do. Thanks for your hard work, dedication, and sacrifices that you made for this season and your career. The coaches would also like to congratulate Greg Keyler, Tyler Kitchen, and Joe Meyer, who made 1st and 2nd Team All District honors respectively. The coaches would like to congratulate Curtis Verrcruysee, Jonathan Sheets, Spencer Smith, John Davey, Chris Wreckley, and Aaron Nolot for making Academic All District honors. This shows not only how hard they worked on the field but off it as well.
