2009 Review

Roncalli’s Boys’ Tennis Team had a very successful 2009 season highlighted by a win over Franklin Central to capture the Sectional Championship. The team then defeated Southwestern to advance to the Regional Final. There they were defeated by a Center Grove team that eventually finished third in the State. The team was senior laden and the experience paid off as the team finished 14-8. Junior Nick Strange who played number one singles, led the team in wins and was voted Most Valuable Player by his teammates. Strange was also named to the All-District Team where he was joined by the number one doubles team of seniors Brad Bourne and Shaun Heinzelman. All three also received All-State Honorable Mention honors. Seniors Trevor McCormick who played number two singles, and senior C.J. Allard who played number three singles, both improved tremendously throughout the year and were awarded with the Mental Attitude Award and the Leadership Award respectively. Anchoring the team at the number two doubles slot were seniors Jimmy Andrews and Ben Diekhoff who also provided the team with many key victories. Ben Diekhoff, Brad Bourne and Trevor McCormick were also named Academic All-State Honorable Mention.
