RONCALLI SPIRIT-
We Will Rock You!!!!

Since early June, the Roncalli Cheerleaders have been practicing and conditioning for the upcoming fall season. Forty-two girls make up the three cheer squads for this fall—18 Varsity, 12 JV and 12 Freshmen.

The girls have been working very hard during the summer to learn chants and cheers that will get the crowd going this year. As always, they spent time brainstorming on ways to continue raising the spirit at Roncalli. At the end of June, the girls attended a four day Universal Cheerleader Association cheer camp at Ball State University where they competed with over 400 girls from around the state, including several local schools. Just as in recent years, the girls were recognized by the camp for having tremendous spirit and leadership. The competition was tough, but the girls brought home numerous awards and ribbons including the Varsity squad receiving Camp Champion Awards in a cheer competition as well as receiving 2nd place for a dance routine. The Varsity squad also received a trophy for demonstrating superiority. This is an awesome accomplishment considering the excellent caliber of the other competing squads. In addition to this, all three squads were awarded a spirit stick on a daily basis and again at closing ceremonies. The Junior Varsity Squad received a Camp Champ Award in the JV/Freshman division for their 1st place performance on their Cheer. The freshman squad also received a Camp Champ Award in that division for a 1st place performance in a dance routine. In addition to this, all three squads competed together in a Home Pom Dance Competition for which their performance earned them a first place. Our teams were also recognized for excellence in motions and jumping technique. Finally, Roncalli also head an excellent showing in the jumping competition. But most of all camp was a wonderful bonding experience for the girls.

Several members of the squad were also recognized as All-Star Cheerleaders. This prestigious award is given after week-long nominations and a tryout on the last night of camp, to the most talented girls in all aspects of cheering. Congratulations to Jacquelyn Dossey, Tori Spencer, Brooke Lutgring, Claire Corn, Jordan Knecht, Rachel Fagan, Kaleigh Schletzer, and Abby Lewinski for being recognized as All-Star Cheerleaders for 2008.

The girls are really looking forward to the upcoming football season and hope that the spirit at Roncalli is at the highest level ever! The cheerleaders plan to lead by example and stay true to their motto:

RONCALLI SPIRIT-
We Will Rock You!!!!
