Girls' Cross Country

2009 Review

The 2009 Girls' Cross Country Team ended their season accomplishing many of the goals set before them at the start of the season. For the girls, the 2009 season was a step in the right direction. Starting in July the girls formed a very tight bond and worked hard to push each other. As a result we qualified for Semi-State for the third year in a row and the fourth overall finishing 17th. This was accomplished with tight pack running as evidenced in our 32 second split between #1 and #5 at Semi-State. Seven girls made the All-Time Top 20 list: Gina Gough #9, Kaitie Schultheis #11, Lauren Ezell #14, Haley Fenton #17, Cassie Schultheis #19 and Jessica Irmer#20 and the team top five average from FlashRock ranks #4 and LN ranks #5 all time. The depth of the team greatly improved as we had 20 girls run 25:00 or faster as opposed to 14 in ’08 (which we were proud of then). Overall the team was very competitive, placing high in the team results at several meets including 2nd out of 12 at Whiteland, 3rd out of 10 at Brebeuf, 3rd out of 27 at Pendleton, winning the Warren central/ Mt. Vernon tri-meet as well as the Whiteland/Greenwood/ Beech Grove quad meet and most impressive to me, 3rd out of 26 at Bedford, were we defeated the teams that finished 17th and 24th at the State Championships. The season ended with a record of 132 wins vs. 81 losses.
