Girls' Soccer 2016 Review
Following up last year’s record-setting 17-4 season, the girls’ soccer team won 10 games and captured the program’s second straight sectional title. The team finished with a 10-6-2 record, as all but one of the six losses were closely contested matches with top 20 teams and the draws were against teams with winning seasons, including a Franklin Central team that advanced to the semi-state.
The Lady Rebels beat Perry Meridian (2-0) and Decatur Central (4-0) to win the program’s ninth sectional title and it’s first back-to-back sectional titles since the Lady Rebels won three in a row from 2001 through 2003.
Senior Josie Asher won the team’s MVP award and seniors Courtney Reece and Maddie Scheil shared the team’s mental attitude award.
Josie Asher and Courtney Reece were named first team All-District 5 by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA). Asher also collected All-Marion County honors from the Marion County Coaches of Girls Sports Association (MCCGSA), a second team All-State selection from the ISCA and a spot on the All-Circle City Conference team. Senior Maddie Scheil won a Top Team “Player” award by the ISCA.
Seniors Josie Asher, Morgan O’Brien, Courtney Reece, Michaela Salazar and Maddie Scheil, along with juniors Rita Brockman, Grace Elo, Kelly Grube, Morgan Kincaid, Maiya Mahoney and Sydney Young were all named Academic All-State by the ISCA.
