The 2007 Roncalli Baseball Team proved once again that they can compete with the state's top teams. With a schedule loaded with ranked teams, the Rebels put together a promising season of (15-10). Victories against ranked opponents; Brebuef, Lawrence Central, Franklin Central, West Vigo and Perry Meridian highlighted the season, which also included a 1st Place Finish in the Franklin Central Invitational Tournament. The season concluded as the Rebels hosted the Sectional and advanced to the Championship Game, after beating #3 ranked Whiteland (10-5). In the end, the Rebels would lose to Chatard (6-5) in the Sectional Championship.
The 2007 Team showed great improvements throughout the year, as they finished with a .314 team batting average and a 3.10 team ERA. The 2007 Seniors finished their careers under 1st year Head Coach Cary Davis, and this was the 1st winning season for the group. “I’m glad to see them have a winning season, they all deserve that. When you are outmanned in most games, you need a great team effort from the kids, that is what I got and it’s because of this group.” cited Coach Davis.
The offense was led by Matt Bova, who hit .413 with 12 stolen bases, while Tony Hogan hit .329 and led the team with 20 stolen bases. Jake Kolisek hit .333 while leading the team in 2B’s and RBI. Jordon Klaiber served as double duty hitting .364 and pitching to a (3-1) record. Fellow Senior Sean Curren, took the brunt of the work going (5-1) to lead the Rebels.
Four Rebel Seniors signed letters of intent to play college baseball. Sean Curren will attend Adrian College in Michigan; while Matt Bova, Tony Hogan, and Jordon Klaiber will attend Ancilla JC, in Indiana.
