The Boys’ Golf Team started rough out of the gates with a loss to Cathedral but came back their next match coming in 2nd in a tri-meet against Perry and Brebeuf at Winding River. The team gutted out a victory over Lawrence Central at Winding Ridge under windy conditions. The day’s medalists and leading scorers were David Holmes, Tony Traina and Louie Gleixner each with 41’s. The boys were victorious over Chatard at Heartland Crossing with a total of 161. Leading scorer for Roncalli was Tony Traina with a 36. Roncalli won their match against Scecina in Boys' golf yesterday at Heartland Crossing with a score of 156 to 165 - medalist and leading the way for Roncalli was Ian Huston with a 3 under par 33. Roncalli scored its lowest 9 hole total for the year against Franklin High School at Smock Golf Course, winning 151 to 180 - leading the scoring was Andrew Fogg with a 2 under par 34. The Rebels took 2nd place in a 4-way meet played at Brickyard Crossing scoring losing to Cathedral, but defeating Center Grove and Speedway - Louie Gleixner led the way with a 2 under par 34 which was good for medalist.
In extremely tough conditions at Winding River Golf Course in the Ritter Classic Invitational, the Rebels took 4th place out of 16 teams. Leading the way for Roncalli was Louie Gleixner with a 76 which was also good for 2nd place individually - with it raining, sleeting and the temperature at 33 degrees, these were three of the best rounds of varsity golf in such poor playing conditions. Roncalli placed 5th out of 12 teams in the Chatard Invite with a score of 341 - low was Tony Traina with 79. The boy’s battled windy cold conditions to an 8th place finish, out of 14 teams in the North Central Invitational at Coffin Golf Course. Roncalli placed 9th out of 20 teams with a total of 365 at the Mooresville Invitational at Heartland Crossing Golf Links. Roncalli placed 9th out of 20 teams with a total of 328 at the Franklin Central Invitational played at Smock Golf Course this past Saturday - leading the scoring for Roncalli was Andrew Fogg with a 77. The team then took top honors at the Marion County Boys’ Golf Championship held at South Grove with a winning total of 299, edging out 15th State ranked North Central by a single stroke. Leading the way for Roncalli was Andrew Fogg with 71 which was good for 2nd place individually.
Roncalli won the Southport Golf Sectional with a score of 304 - leading the way was David Holmes with an even par 72 which was good for 3rd place individually. At Regional’s, Roncalli placed 5th out of 12 teams shooting a score of 318 and missed going to the State Finals by only 2 strokes. David Holmes tied for 3rd place individually with a score of 75 which advanced him to the State Finals!
