2007 Season Review

The 2007 edition of the Roncalli Rebels Softball Team enjoyed successes and disappointments on its way to an 18-10 record. The Rebels were victorious in the Fort Wayne Carroll Invitational and the Roncalli Invitational, but fell one game short in the County Tournament and the Sectional Tournament.

After a strong start to the season, the Rebels were hurt by key injuries at the mid-way point, damaging their momentum going into the State Tournament. The County Tournament once again found the Rebels in the final game. After posting an early 2-0 lead, the ladies faltered in the late innings, eventually losing to Decatur Central 5-2. In the Sectionals, the Rebels fought back from an early deficit, only to eventually fall to Whiteland 2-1.

Despite these disappointments, the Rebels had many successes as well. The final record of 18-10 was indicative of their strong play throughout the season. The softball team was led offensively by Jennifer Barnett who paced the team with a .547 batting average (a school record), 30 runs scored, and 29 RBI. Barnett also tied the season record with 7 triples, and broke the season record with 11 doubles. Megan Murdoch also had a strong year with a .425 batting average and 5 home runs, yet another school record. Other key offensive leaders included Haley Oskins (.395 BA), Kaitlyn Shaw (.388 BA), Katie Griffin (.340 BA), Erika Layer (.329 BA), and Kerry Lynch (.324 BA).

Haley Oskins once again paced the pitching staff with a 2.05 ERA. Oskins broke a school record with 42 career wins. Kim Clifton posted a 3.32 ERA, while Nicole Gravelie was called up late in the season, pitching admirably at the end of the year (2.21 ERA).

Other key contributors to the successful season included Rocky Buckel, Heather Hayes, Rachel Marshall, Erin Ross and Shannon Young.

Numerous awards were garnished by the Rebel Softball team this year. These included: Jennifer Barnett (All-County, Star South Team, Star Super Team), Haley Oskins (All-County, North-South All-Star) and Megan Murdoch (All-County, Star South Team). Others recognized on various teams (honorable mention) included Katilyn Shaw, Katie Griffin, Erika Layer and Kerry Lynch.
