Girls Track and Field

2007 Season Review

The Lady Rebel Track & Field team finished another outstanding season with a 15- 4 record. En route to that record, the Lady Rebels won the All Catholic Meet for the first time, defeating the 5th ranked Bishop Chatard Trojans. This marked the first time that a boys and girls team won that Meet in the same year. During the season, several school records were broken including Jenny Merkel’s 17’ 8” performance in the Long Jump, Michelle Funke and Meredith Naughton both hold the Pole Vault record of 9’ 0”, the 4 x 800 relay team of Lauren Bourne, Elissa Mason, Andrea Wolf and Audrey Dubord broke the record with a time of 9:52.5, Elissa Mason in the 3200 with a time of 11:06.27 and Amy Sanders broke her own record with a time of 14.81 in the 100m Hurdles.

The Lady Rebels continued their success during the State series. At the Sectional, the Team placed third while qualifying athletes in events. Advancing to the Regionals were the 4 x 800 relay of Lauren Bourne, Olivia Jahnke, Andrea Wolf and Audrey Dubord, the 4 x 100 relay of Sarah Merkel, Amy Sanders, Nicole Rawlings and Brianna Kern, and the 4 x 400 relay of Sarah Merkel, Kathryn Delacruz, Maria Funke and Audrey Dubord. Also advancing individually were Hannah Kern (Long Jump), Elissa Mason (1600 and 3200), Brianna Kern (300 H), Michelle Funke (Pole Vault), Meredith Naughton (Pole Vault) and Amy Sanders ( 100 H and 300 H). The Lady Rebels were paced by Sectional Champions Elissa Mason (3200) and Amy Sanders (100H and 300 H). The Team performed well at the Regionals while placing 5th overall. The Lady Rebels needed to place at least 3rd at the Meet to advance to the State Meet. Accomplishing that goal for the Lady Rebels were the 4 x 100 team of Sarah Merkel, Amy Sanders, Nicole Rawlings and Jenny Merkel. This was the third straight year a 4 x 100 team has qualified for the state meet, with each team having at least one new member. Elissa Mason placed 2nd to advance and Amy Sanders won the 100 H race to qualify for the State Meet. At the State Meet, despite the rainy conditions, the girls performed well. Elissa Mason narrowly missed medaling, but ran a school record of 11:06.27 with a tremendous race. Amy Sanders, while running a new school record of 14.81, placed 7th to earn a medal at the State Meet.

Congratulations to the Team for an outstanding 2007 season!
