Rebels Swimming & Diving More Balanced Than Ever!

By Mark Maloney R’85
January 17, 2016

Rebel swimmers and divers put on a nice show this past Thursday at Warren Central. The Rebels won heat after heat with dominance across all disciplines; sprints, mid to long distance, diving and relays. Eddie Huck may have the smoothest backstroke I have ever seen. Irish Wilson displayed eloquence and grace while maintaining dives with the greatest degree of difficulty. The relay teams were steady at every leg. Many close finishes brought a level of excitement that was contagious. Onlookers with no skin in the game were cheering as if their son or daughter were qualifying for the Olympic games. If you have never been to a meet, I would strongly suggest checking one out.

The girls team dominated with season bests in the following events:

  • Isabel Laut - 50 Freestyle
  • Olivia Beach - 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle
  • Katie Scott - 100 Butterfly
  • Emily Barron - 100 Freestyle
  • Emily Bell - 100 Freestyle
  • Maria Taylor - 100 Freestyle
  • Sarah Wiley - 100 Freestyle, 50 Free ‐ Relay lead off 100 Breaststroke
  • Annabel Gremore 100 Free ‐ Relay lead off

The boys team put on a show with individual winners and personal bests of their own:

  • Blake Ludge - 100 Freestyle
  • Elliot Nail - 100 Backstroke
  • Ryan Armstrong - 200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, 100 Free ‐ Relay lead off
  • Adam Pongracz - 50 Freestyle
  • Noah Buening - 500 Freestyle
  • Eddie Huck -100 Backstroke
  • Jack Bauer 100 Breaststroke

Coach Merkling prepares the team for competition. Coach Merkling prepares the team for competition. Coach Merkling prepares the team for competition.
