The Rebel Wrestlers are anticipating another outstanding season. Last year’s team shocked the state after winning sectionals and team regionals to qualify for team state for the 1st time in school history, ending the season ranked 7th in the state.
Last year the Rebels sent three wrestlers to the individual state tournament including senior captain Tony Bell (HWT), and sophomores Justin Kieffer (119) and Josh Kieffer (112). The sensational sophomores both made their second appearance at the state tournament. Justin placed 7th and Josh was a runner-up losing a 1 point heart breaker in double overtime in the finals.
The Rebels graduated 9 seniors last year, but will return 9 seniors this season. The Rebels will reload from its outstanding J.V. team that went 17-1 last season, along with varsity veterans Aaron Davis (semi-state qualifier), Joe Kieffer (semi-state qualifier) Jake Bartley (semi-state qualifier) and Ben Kane (regional qualifier). Seniors looking to make an impact are Andrew Armbruster, Carl Goss, Austin Green, Matt Massengale, Fabrizio De Venere and Luke Winningham along with an outstanding group of underclassmen that boasted 20 freshman last season. This was the strongest and most talented class since Coach Ellis started coaching the Rebels. The current roster includes 14 freshmen, 14 sophomores, 4 juniors and 10 seniors.
