Director of Choral Activities – Trevor Fanning

Trevor Fanning The 2010-2011 school year marks Trevor's 4th year as Director of Choral Music here at Roncalli High School. Since his arrival in 2007, Trevor's goal for the RHS Rebel Choirs has been to develop a choral program that the students, their parents, the school, our Archdiocese, and our City can be proud of; to challenge the students with beautiful and complex music that inspires and excites them; and to teach the foundations of singing, good vocal technique, and choral singing to all of the 175+ students in the program. In addition to 3 major concerts throughout the year, RHS Rebel Choirs participate in invitationals, festivals, and competitions throughout the city and state (and in neighboring states as well). Some recent highlights include Gold Rating placements at ISSMA, the title of "Grand Champion" in back-to-back LC Central Sound Classic in the Festival Class Show Choir competition, performing for a national audience when Indianapolis hosted the NCEA convention in March of 2008, and being part of the first choir to perform at Lucas Oil Stadium.

This year, the advanced Rebel Choirs will perform beautiful a capella selections at our Sacred Sounds Concert on Sunday October 17th, 2010, highlighted by music from the Russian Orthodox tradition. It will be a one-of-a-kind, not-to-be-missed concert. Then, all of the choirs perform in our annual Christmas Concert, celebrating the joy and wonder of the festive holiday season (this year with two concerts to accommodate our growing program; one on Sunday Dec. 12th and one on Monday Dec. 13th). And in May of 2011 we will pay tribute to Indiana composers at our annual Pops Concert & Cabaret "Born In A Small Town". Other exciting highlights for the year to come include our show choir performing an all Rodgers and Hammerstein inspired show, when they bring "Some Enchanted Evening" to competitions in Indiana and Ohio in February 2011. And the excitement of springtime and baseball fever will be even more exciting this year when the Choral, Band, and Theatre departments collaborate to present DAMN YANKEES as our annual musical in March 2011.

Educated at Wabash College, Trevor Fanning is a native of Connecticut, where his love of choral music began. In high school Trevor performed in numerous musical groups (from large mixed ensembles to small male a capella ensembles and everything in between). Trevor continued his love of, and work in, choral education and performance in college (in New Orleans and later at Wabash College), and beyond. He has sung with ensembles in Louisiana, Indiana, Illinois, Connecitcut, and New York City. He has performed in musical theatre and plays in those places as well (recently performing at Buck Creek Playhouse and The Indianapolis Children's Museum, and Footlite Musicals). Before arriving at RHS, Trevor spent 5 years teaching in Connecticut at his alma mater and at a Catholic boarding school. In addition, Trevor has directed choral ensembles and theatre productions in Indiana, Illinois, and Connecticut. In addition to his roles at Roncalli, Trevor also sits on the Entr'acte Board at Footlite Musicals, is a music instructor for summer programs at Indianapolis Civic Theatre, and is the Director of Music/Choir Director at Irvington Presbyterian Church.

We hope you will join us throughout the year for our exciting choral events: our Sacred Sounds Concert (Sunday, Oct. 17th, 2010), the UINDY Choral Invitational (Saturday, Nov. 6th, 2010), our Christmas Concerts (Sunday, Dec. 12th AND Monday, Dec. 13th, 2010), and our Pops Concert: "Born In A Small Town" (Two concerts are offered this year on Saturday, May 7th, 2011).

This year's Spring Musical will be DAMN YANKEES and will run March 17th, 18th, and 19th, 2011. We hope to see you for this rousing musical set around America's favorite pastime!

And of course, "Some Enchanted Evening", the 10-11 show choir show will be performed in competition Jan 29th, Feb. 5th, 12th, and 26th, 2011, with a FREE preview performance for the public, and friends and family on Friday, Jan. 21st at 7pm. We hope you will join us!
