Director of Choral Activities – Trevor Fanning

Trevor Fanning This year will mark Trevor’s 3rd year as the Director of the Roncalli High School Rebel Choirs. Since his arrival in 2007, Trevor has been developing a choral program that the students, their parents, the school, our Archdiocese, and our City can be proud of. Some recent highlights include Gold Rating placements in the ISSMA group choral competitions in 08 and 09, the title of “Grand Champion” in back-to-back LC Central Sound Classic in the Festival Class Show Choir competition, performing for a national audience when Indianapolis hosted the NCEA convention in March of 2008, and being part of the first choir to perform at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Rebel Choirs enjoy singing in 3 major concerts throughout the year as well as at an Invitationals at UIndy and at various events throughout the City and State.

This year, the Rebel Choirs are planning some challenging and beautiful musical experiences, including a performance of John Rutter’s MASS OF THE CHILDREN on Sunday October 18th, 2009, a show choir show with a theme of adventure, exploration, and the power of home (with music by Jason Robert Brown, Bjork, Michael Buble and the King of Pop – Michael Jackson!), and an “unplugged” all-a capella program (at our Pops Concert and Cabaret) and much, much more!

Educated at Wabash College, Trevor Fanning is a native of Connecticut, where his love of choral music began. In high school Trevor performed in numerous musical groups (from large mixed ensembles to small male a capella ensembles and everything in between). Trevor continued his love of, and work in, choral education and performance in college (in New Orleans and later at Wabash College), and beyond. He has sung with ensembles in Louisiana, Indiana, Illinois, Connecitcut, and New York City. He has performed in musical theatre and plays in those places as well (recently performing at Buck Creek Playhouse and The Indianapolis Children’s Museum, and Footlite Musicals). Before arriving at RHS, Trevor spent 5 years teaching in Connecticut at his alma mater and at a Catholic boarding school. In addition has directed choral ensembles and theatre productions in Indiana, Illinois, and Connecticut. In addition to his role at Roncalli, Trevor is also the Choir Director at Nativity Catholic Church on the Southeast side of Indianapolis.

We hope you will join us throughout the year for our exciting choral events: the UINDY Choral Invitational (Saturday, Oct. 17th), our Sacred Sounds Concert (Sunday, Oct. 18th), the Christmas Concert (Sunday, Dec. 13th), and our Pops Concert: Rebel Choirs “Unplugged” (Saturday, May 15th, 2010).

This coming year’s Spring Musical will be “The Wiz” and will run April 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2010. We hope to see you here for this fun, exciting, soulful retelling of a popular and beloved story.
And of course, “A New World”, the 09-10 show choir show will be performed in competition Jan 30th, Feb. 6th, 20th, and 27th, 2010.
