Tips for Sophomore Year
- Attend a college fair or RHS college or career event (see the College and Career tabs for more information).
- Attend the NCAA presentation at RHS if interested in college athletics.
- Attend an open house on a college campus (weekends, vacation days, or summer).
- Schedule and complete a job shadow during the summer.
- Know you can be excused for one college visit OR one job shadow day during your sophomore year.
- Future Planning Night for Freshman and Sophomores is held each fall and includes great information about being successful your first two years of high school and preparing for post-high school opportunities. Information such as handouts, slides, etc. will be available online after the presentation.
Sophomore Year at a Glance
- September: Future Planning Night for Freshman and Sophomores.
- September: Take the Interest Inventory in Naviance to begin identifying possible careers.

- Your user name is your 6 digit Roncalli student ID number.
- Note: If you have not logged into Naviance for a while, you may need to reset your password. If you are having trouble accessing your account when you attempt to reset your password, let your School Counselor know and we will help!
- September-November: Sign up for college rep visits on Naviance. Here are Instructions on Signing Up for a College Visit in Naviance. You can attend a maximum of 1 college rep visit your sophomore year.
- October: Take the PSAT exam.
- January: Create your CollegeBoard login.
- Username = first name and 5 digit ID
- Password = last name and 3 digit pin (same as for Naviance)
- January-March: Register for classes for your junior year. Be sure you meet the prerequisites.
- 10th Grade Scheduling Appointments are held in the second semester before spring break. Students meet one-on-one with their School Counselor to discuss their current plans for after high school, review their transcript, and discuss classes for the following school year. We will also discuss preparing for the SAT/ACT, college visits and job shadows, involvement at school, and finding other opportunities to help prepare for after high school.
- January-June: Use My College QuickStart on CollegeBoard to review PSAT results and strengthen skills.
- My College QuickStart offers personalized college and career planning information after taking the PSAT. It allows students to access their score report, create an SAT study plan, find college matches, and view college majors and careers that may be a good fit.
