About Theatre

Roncalli’s Theatre program consists of Theatre Arts, Technical Theatre, and Theatre Productions classes. It produces seven shows a year including the Fall Musical, Spring Play, Theatre Productions, Children’s Theatre, Theatre Productions Experimental Theatre, and two Junior Royal Theatre camps. With over 300 students participating in Theatre at Roncalli High School each year, the Theatre program has earned a reputation of excellence throughout the Southside of Indianapolis.


Phillip Anderson, Theatre Director and Department Chair

Theatre Director

Phillip Anderson serves as the Director of Theatre Education and Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Roncalli High School. He is passionate about helping students discover their voices through the arts and believes that theatre education is an essential part of a well-rounded education. Educational theatre naturally integrates disciplines such as science, mathematics, history, world languages, physical education, business, technology, economics, and more. Through theatre, students develop creativity, collaboration, communication, empathy and confidence while learning to recognize beauty and cultivate virtues such as compassion, kindness and respect.

The 2026–2027 school year marks Phillip’s 29th year teaching theatre at Roncalli High School. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, he is a graduate of Franklin Central High School. Phillip earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Education from Anderson University and later completed a Master of Education with an emphasis in theatre at the University of Indianapolis. He is a lifetime member of Alpha Psi Omega, the national theatre honor society and the International Thespian Society. Throughout his career, Phillip has remained committed to providing meaningful educational experiences that inspire students both on the stage and beyond.
