2019 Girls Soccer Review
The girls soccer team finished with a 7-7-3 record against a schedule that featured five matches against teams ranked in the state top 10 in their respective classes. The team posted a 3-2 conference record, that included a 1-0 double overtime win at Guerin Catholic. In the sectional, the team avenged a regular season loss to Franklin Central with a 1-0 victory in the semifinal round. The Rebels trailed 2-0 in the second half to Lawrence North in the sectional final before scoring two goals late, including senior forward Isabella Battiston’s game-tying goal off of a corner kick in the final minute of regulation. After a scoreless overtime, the Rebels lost 4-2 on penalty kicks, hitting the goal frame on two shots.
Senior forward Sophia Dietz and sophomore defender Abbey Scheil were named second team all-district by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association. Dietz, Scheil and junior defender Lauren Prather were all named All-Circle City Conference. Scheil and Prather earned All-Marion County honors. For the second straight season, senior midfielder Riley Prewitt was named a Top Team Player. Dietz was named the team's MVP, while Jeanne Sering earned the team's mental attitude award.
The Rebels placed 10 players on the ISCA’s academic all-state honor roll. Dietz, senior midfielder Jeanne Sering, Prewitt, Prather, Battiston, senior midfielder Minna Burkhardt, senior defender Yoselin Fonseca, senior forward Emily Sonderman, junior defender Olivia Kelley and junior forward Chiara Schilten all made the list. Dietz and Sering were also chosen to the academic all-state list by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Assocation (ICGSA). Prewitt, Fonseca and Sonderman all made the ICGSA honorable mention academic all-state list.
