2021 Girls Soccer Season Review

Behind three consecutive shutouts, the girls soccer team won the program’s 11th sectional title and second straight. Roncalli held Lawrence North (4-0), Warren Central (9-0) and Franklin Central (3-0) scoreless, representing only the fourth time in program history that the team won a sectional title without allowing a goal. The team finished the season with a 12-5-4 record against a schedule that featured 10 matches against ranked teams. Included in that stretch were draws against state-ranked foes Cathedral, Center Grove and Brebeuf Jesuit, and a comeback 2-1 home win over state-ranked Park Tudor, which propelled the Royals to the semifinal round of the Marion County Tournament. The team’s season ended with a loss to state-ranked East Central in the regional semi-final. Over the course of the season, Roncalli allowed just 18 goals in 21 games and tied the program record with 12 shutouts.

Senior defender Abbey Scheil was named the team’s MVP and junior midfielder Micah Waugh earned the team’s Mental Attitude award. Scheil was chosen to the All-District First Team by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA) for the second-straight season and named honorable mention all-state by the ISCA. Freshman midfielder Summer Fishel was named an ISCA Top Team Player. Scheil was named first team all-state by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) and Fishel was named to the third team. Scheil and Fishel were both named to the All-Circle City Conference team and they were joined on the All-Marion County team by freshman forward Mac Kruer. Sophomore midfielder Erin Reilly and Micah Waugh were named honorable mention All-Marion County. Senior goalkeeper Emma Agresta and junior goalkeeper Ansley Bishop shared the program single-season record of 12 shutouts.

Roncalli placed 11 players on the ISCA’s Academic All-State honor roll. Seniors Emma Agresta, Cate Lehner, Kathryn Madriz, Ainsley Newett, Sophia Saran and Abbey Scheil, along with juniors Ansley Bishop, Sydney Horton, Lauren Kill, Hannah Morgan and Micah Waugh all made the list.
