Girls Soccer 2017 Review
The girls soccer team finished with an 8-8-1 record. The team finished the season ranked 13th in the final Class 2A state poll. It navigated a schedule that featured six games against teams that finished the season ranked in the top 10 in their respective classes. The season was highlighted by a 1-0 road win at Fort Wayne Carroll and a 2-1 victory at Franklin Central. In the Franklin Central game, sophomore goalkeeper Abby Genier made 25 saves, earning her Indianapolis Star Player of the Week honors.
Senior Rita Brockman was named the team MVP and senior Sydney Young earned the team’s mental attitude award. The Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA) selected Brockman second team All-District. Young won a Top Team player award from the ISCA. Sophomore Sophia Dietz was named All-Circle City Conference and joined Genier on the All-Marion County team, as selected by the Marion County Coaches of Girls Sports Association (MCCGSA).
Brockman, Young and fellow seniors Grace Elo, Kelly Grube, Morgan Kincaid, Maiya Mahoney were all named Academic All-State by the ISCA. Juniors Ainsley Flask, Sidney Kritzmire, Molly Mullin and Jennifer Murillo were also selected Academic All-State by the ISCA. Additionally, the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) selected Morgan Kincaid to the Academic All-State team. That same organization named Grace Elo, Kelly Grube, Sydney Young and Rita Brockman to the honorable mention Academic All-State team.
