2017 Season Review
The girls volleyball team filled the trophy case during the 2017 season, while compiling a 25-9 record. The team repeated as Circle City Conference champions and captured the program’s seventh Marion County Tournament title and the first since 2014. With wins over Pike and Perry Meridian, the team won a Class 4A sectional at Decatur Central. The sectional title was the program’s first since 2014 and third since moving to Class 4A in 2011. It’s also the program’s 26th sectional title. Only 11 Indiana high schools have won at least 25 sectional titles. The Rebels saw their season end in the regional semifinal round by Avon, the eventual Class 4A state champion.
The Marion County Coaches of Girls Sports Association (MCCGSA) named Senior Hannah Irmer and juniors Grace Hegwood and Elizabeth Eads All-Marion County. Senior Lauren Fey was an honorable mention allcounty selection. Irmer, Hegwood and Eads were all chosen All-Circle City Conference. Additionally, Irmer was named second team allstate.
The Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association (IHSVCA) chose seniors Amelia Banister, Hannah Irmer, Grace Lawrie and Lauren Fey to the Academic All-State list. Banister, Lawrie and Irmer were named honorable mention Academic All-State by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA).
In their final high school seasons, seniors Hannah Irmer and Lauren Fey crossed significant career milestones. Irmer achieved her 1,000th career dig against Cathedral and Fey recorded her 1,000th career assist in the Marion County Tournament quarterfinal-round win over Franklin Central.
