2017 Football Coaching Staff
Varsity Head Coach
Scott Marsh begins his first season as head coach of the Rebels after serving as the Defensive Coordinator in 2016. He has previously served as a head coach at TC Howe High School (2008) and Perry Meridian High School (2009-2015). Scott also has coaching stops at Warren Central High School, Boyd County High School (Ky.), Lake Gibson High School (Fla.), and Morehead State University (Ky.). In college, Marsh was a 3-year starter and captain as a linebacker at Morehead State before beginning his coaching career there. Originally from Ashland, Ky., he and his wife, Missy (RHS ‘93), have four children, Luke (13), Kennedy (12), Callaway (10), and Kellen (6), all of whom attend St. Roch.
Dave Burton is in his fourth season as a Rebel assistant. He will assume primary playcalling duties in 2017 and coach quarterbacks. The former University of Indianapolis quarterback is a native of Winchester and spent 10 years as an assistant at Warren Central, where he coached 2 Mr. Football winners. He was the Offensive Coordinator for the 2006 Warrior team dubbed the “Greatest Team in Indiana History” by the Indianapolis Star. Burton and his wife, Shannon, have two boys, Dane (8) and Drew (5), who attend St. Roch.
Special Teams Coordinator
Chris Strykowski begins his 18th season at Roncalli and will again be serving as Special Teams Coordinator for the Rebels. The Ball State and Indiana Wesleyan graduate will primarily work with the kickers and punters. He and his wife, Lynne, have 2 children, Austin (12) and Addison (6) both of whom attend St. Jude.
Kevin Banich R'09 is entering his 5th year coaching and teaching at Roncalli. A former quarterback and 3-sport Rebel athlete, Banich was selected as the Outstanding Male Athlete his senior year at Roncalli. This will be his 1st season coaching Rebel receivers and serving as junior varsity offensive coordinator after serving as the head freshman coach for four years. He is a graduate of Ball State and coaches track and field for the Rebels as well. In that role, Banich coached Roncalli’s only female long jump champion, Paige Saylor. His wife, Audrey, is a 2010 RHS graduate.
Tim Puntarelli is the longest-tenured coach on the Rebel staff. Tim has assisted on Roncalli teams dating back to the late 1970’s. The Notre Dame graduate also serves as Roncalli’s Dean of Students and will be coaching Rebel running backs in 2017, as well as the program’s head junior varsity coach. Tim’s son Aaron (‘08) is a former Rebel player.
Chris Belch R'85 has 21 years of coaching experience at Roncalli, primarily on the defensive side of the ball. A partner in the Lynch and Belch Law Firm, he has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, as well as his degree from the Indiana University School of Law. As a former Rebel defensive coordinator, Belch led defenses during 4 Rebel state championship campaigns and coached Roncalli’s only Mr. Football winner, Jason Werner.
2017 will be the first season for Joe Crowe as an assistant at Roncalli. He comes to the Rebels from Arsenal Tech, where he was the Defensive Coordinator for the past three seasons. He also has coaching stops at TC Howe and John Marshall High School. He is a 2010 graduate of TC Howe. His daughter, Harmony (3), attends Our Lady of the Greenwood.
Sam Otley R'11 is in his second season as a Roncalli football assistant. The former Franklin College captain and fullback will coach fullbacks and tight ends for the Rebels. A 2010 Rebel offensive MVP, Otley has previous coaching experience at the collegiate level at both Franklin College and North Carolina Wesleyan.
Dan Lauck R'10 is in his 5th season with the Rebels, his 3rd as a varsity assistant. Lauck was selected as the Most Valuable Defensive Player his senior season as Rebel. He will coach the safeties and coordinate the junior varsity defense. A graduate of IUPUI and Marian University, Dan’s wife, Katie, is also a 2010 Roncalli graduate.
Fred Rohlman is in his first season at Roncalli and will coach the Rebel offensive line. A former Purdue offensive lineman, Rohlman has coached offensive line at both Decatur Central and Warren Central. While at Warren, 3 of his offensive linemen were selected as Mr. Football position winners. Rohlman also has coordinating experience as Run Game Coordinator at Carmel High School and as the Offensive Coordinator at Martinsville High School.
Assistant Special Teams
Luke Scifres R'10 enters his 4th season assisting with the Rebel special teams, focusing primarily on longsnappers. As a Rebel athlete, Luke was the Mental Attitude Award winner as well as the GREAT Player Award winner by the Indianapolis Kiwanis Club in 2010. While a player at Marian University, Scifres was a member of a national championship team and a national runner-up team.
Aaron Strader begins his 5th year working with the Rebel secondary. A former All-State player at Southport and Illinois State player, Strader also served as the head coach at Southport High School. He is a graduate of Ball State and the University of Indianapolis. He has 3 sons, Robbie (‘16) was a sectional and regional champion Rebel quarterback, Drew (17) is a current defensive lineman, and Sam (10) attends St. Jude.
Jason Youngs will be in his second season coaching the Rebel offensive line. The St. Mary’s, Ohio native is a former Ole Miss offensive lineman, where he helped lead the way for Deuce McAllister and Eli Manning. Prior to Ole Miss, Youngs was a JUCO All-America selection and national champion at the College of the Canyons. His previous coaching experience includes duties at Eastern Oregon University, College of the Canyons, Warren Central High School, Decatur Central High School, and Cathedral High School. He and his wife, Nicole, have 3 children, Roman (7), Kane (6), and Adrian (4), who attend Ss. Francis and Clare.
