Baseball 2020 Preview
The 2020 Roncalli baseball team will be led by a group of five seniors, all of whom have varsity experience. Will Schoettle returns to anchor the pitching staff after a stellar junior year. Schoettle finished last season with a 5-1 record, 39 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched and a 1.75 ERA. Alex Stroud and August Endris both started seeing varsity time as sophomores. Stroud became the Rebels starting first baseman toward the end of his sophomore season. He hit .262 with 2 homeruns and 5 doubles is his junior campaign. He’ll be playing college baseball at Asbury University. Endris returns after hitting .269 with a double in last season. Primarily a catcher, Endris can use his speed as an outfielder, as well. Endris has improved tremendously over the last year. After 22 at bats during his junior year, Corbin Fath returns as a utility infielder for the Rebels. Fath likely will see the most time at second base, but can play other infield positions if needed. He has been an excellent leader for the Rebels. Sammy Baugh returns as a member of the pitching staff after a promising junior campaign which ended with an excellent start near the end of the season. Baugh was a key reliever for the Rebels, and figures to be a very important arm for the Rebels this year.
The Rebels also return a solid junior class, all of whom were starters during their sophomore year. Ryan Henry, Cole Beckman, John Troxell, and Dominic Brown all return for what should be a very solid season for each. Dylan Craig also saw time as a sophomore last season. Sophomores Brayden Speziale and Johnny Roeder both return after seeing time as freshmen.
After winning the Circle City Conference championship for the second straight season, and the inaugural Circle City Conference Tournament, it appears to be a very promising 2020 season for the Rebels.
