Gymnastics 2020-21 Season Review
The gymnastics team posted a 28-14 regular-season record, for its highest win total in over a decade. The team was one of two programs, along with the wrestling program, in Roncalli’s athletic department to not have a senior on its roster. The roster consisted of six juniors, two sophomores and three freshmen. For only the second time in the last eight years, the team had a meet where every girl stuck the beam. The team finished fifth in the sectional, for its best team finish in three seasons. For the first time in eight seasons, two gymnasts advanced to regional. Junior Gabby Conjelko finished third on the bars and fifth in the all-around to advance to regional. Freshman Elizabeth Schafer also advanced to regional, finishing sixth in the all-around. The following week, Conjelko tied for fourth on the bars and sixth in the all-around to qualify for state for the second-straight year. She’s the first Roncalli gymnast to qualify for state in back-to-back years since Kaitie and Cassie Schultheis completed the feat in 2012. At the state final at Ball State University, Conjelko finished 22nd in the all-around.
Gabby Conjelko was named the team’s MVP and Elizabeth Schafer earned the team’s mental attitude award.
