Wrestling Coaching Staff
Wade McClurg is entering his 4th season as Head Wrestling Coach at Roncalli High School. Coach McClurg is looking to build off the success that the Rebels experienced in his first 3 seasons leading the program. Last season, McClurg and his staff lead Roncalli to a 17-3 regular season dual meet record, finished the season ranked 6th in the state, and earned a bid to the 2020 IHSWCA Team State Duals Tournament. The team was Conference Champions, 6th Place at the IHSWCA Team State Duals, Sectional Runner-Ups, Regional Third Place, Semi-State Champions, and at the State Finals they finished in 6th place (the 7th Top 10 State Finals finish in the program's history). In a season full of team accomplishments, at the IHSAA State Finals the Rebels had a record 4 IHSAA State Medalists finish in the top 4 of their respective weight classes in a single season. Alec Viduya 2nd place at 132 lbs, Brayden Lowery 3rd place at 120 lbs, Elijah Mahan 3rd place at 170 lbs, Tyce Freije 4th place at 138 lbs.
McClurg is a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach. He is the President and Head Coach of the wrestling club, Rebel Wrestling Foundation. Has been a member of the Indiana State Wrestling Association's National Team Staff since 2008. McClurg was selected by his peers the 2013 ISWA Coach of the Year.
McClurg had served as an Assistant Coach for 8 years. He worked with many of the state and country's best athletes from 2008-2013 as an Assistant Coach at a club called Central Indiana Academy of Wrestling. Then, McClurg took his talents to Carmel High School from 2013-2016 where he mentored 7 State Qualifiers, 3 State Medalists, and the team was 2x Sectional and 2x Regional Champions. Coach McClurg also played a large role in helping build Carmel USA Wrestling Club into one of the biggest and best clubs in the state during his time spent there from 2013-2016.
A 2008 graduate of Beech Grove High School, he then continued his education at the University of Indianapolis and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
Coach and his wife Ashley (Roncalli Alumni '08) reside in Franklin Township, are parishioners at St. Roch, they have a daughter Adelynn Grace, and have a Goldendoodle named Bear.
Head Assistant Coach
Bryce Martin is entering his 1st year as Head Assistant Coach for the Roncalli Wrestling program. Coach Martin wrestled for Bakersfield High School in California, where he was a four-time varsity letter winner. He was a four-time League Champion, a two-time Divisional Champion, and a two-time State Medalist finishing 4th as a Junior and 2nd his senior year. During his prep career he earned the following honors: USAW Junior Freestyle All-American, USAW Folkstyle All-American, NHSCA All-American. After high school, Coach Martin wrestled at Indiana University where he started all 4 years for the Hoosiers. Martin was a two-time Big Ten Championships Place Winner, as well as a two-time NCAA Division 1 Championships Qualifier, compiling a career record of 89-52. Coach Martin works in the sales industry, and his wife Morgan is currently attending graduate school at Indiana University.
DJ Smith is entering his 1st year as an Assistant Coach for the Roncalli Wrestling program. Coach Smith wrestled for Franklin Community High School in Indiana, where he was a four-time varsity letter winner. He was a 3-time IHSAA State Finalist, 2-time IHSAA State Medalist, and the 2014 IHSAA State Champion at 113 lbs during his senior season. After high school, Coach Smith wrestled for the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis where he wrestled five years, started varsity for two seasons at 125lbs, member of the 2017 Super Regional Championship, and was an Academic All-American. Coach Smith currently works at Central Catholic School as a P.E. teacher and the Athletic Director.
Coach Blackwell is entering his 6th season as an Assistant Coach for the Roncalli Wrestling program. Jacob is a 2008 Roncalli graduate. He wrestled for the Rebels for four years. He earned three varsity wrestling letters and qualified for semi-state twice. He finished his high school career with a 3rd place finish at the IHSAA State Finals, during his senior year in 2008. After high school Jacob wrestled for the Greyhounds of UIndy. Most recently, Jacob served his country as in the active duty Navy. He currently resides in Indianapolis, a parishioner at Holy Name, he works as a firefighter for the Indianapolis Fire Department. Coach Blackwell also coaches at the club level for the Rebel Wrestling Foundation, and is a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach.
Coach Kieffer is entering his first season as an Assistant coach for the Roncalli Wrestling program. Joe is a 2013 Roncalli graduate. He wrestled for the Rebels for four years. He had a remarkable career as a Rebel wrestler, earning four varsity wrestling letters and amassing over 100 wins. After high school, Joe wrestled for the UIndy Greyhounds. He earned two varsity wrestling letters while at UIndy and competed in the 2017 Super Regional where UIndy was crowned team champions. While at UIndy, Joe earned a bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management. Joe coached wrestling at our South Deanery CYO Program at St. Roch for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He currently resides on the Southside of Indianapolis, parishioner at St. Roch, and works as a firefighter for the City of Lawrence Fire Department.
Coach Clifton is entering his first season as an assistant coach for the Roncalli Wrestling program. Nick is a 2004 Roncalli graduate. He wrestled for the Rebels for four years. He earned four Varsity letters, and accumulated over 100 career wins. He was three-time ISWA State Champion, USAW All-American, and placed 7th at the IHSAA state finals in 2004. After high school, he earned a varsity letter for the UIndy Greyhounds. Coach Clifton and his wife Natalie reside in Franklin Township, they are parishioners at Nativity Catholic Church. They have two sons Elijah and Wyatt that attend Nativity Catholic School.
Director of Wrestling Development
Coach Riley McClurg is a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach that has been deeply involved with the sport of wrestling his entire life. McClurg is the son of Jeff and Apryl McClurg, and he has two older brothers Kyle and Wade. After 4-knee surgeries and a career ending spinal fusion in 2017 that forced Riley to walk away from competition for life, McClurg discovered his love and passion for coaching the sport of wrestling. Before joining the staff as the Director of Wrestling Development, Riley was previously the Owner/Head Coach of The Indy Speed Wrestling Factory for one year in 2019, and he was the Head Assistant Wrestling Coach at Roncalli High School and Rebel Wrestling Foundation from 2016-19. McClurg has been a member of the Indiana State Wrestling Association’s National Team Staff since 2017, and this includes the role of Assistant Team Leader for the 2018 Schoolboy Duals. Riley graduated from Perry Meridian High School in 2013, and then received his B.S. in Management from the Byrum School of Business at Marian University in 2018. McClurg currently resides on the southside of Indianapolis and is a parishioner at St. Roch Catholic Church. Coach McClurg loves to spend time with his family, friends, and play golf when the weather is permitting.

College Wrestling Accomplishments: Career record of 21-9. Wrestled under NCAA Division 1 All-American and former wrestler of Dan Gable, Steve Martin, at Old Dominion University. During the off-season, McClurg and teammates would travel with Coach Steve Martin implementing the Granby School of Wrestling. Spent final seasons at Marian University in Indianapolis, IN under head coach, Steven Bradley.
High School Coaching Accomplishments: Recorded 50 dual meet wins as the Head Assistant Coach for the Rebels for three seasons from 2016-2019. Mentored 11 IHSAA State Qualifiers, 10 IHSAA State Place Winners, 2 IHSAA State Runner-Ups, 1 IHSAA State Champion, IHSAA Team State Finishes 8th – 2018 & 6th – 2019, IHSWCA 3A State Duals 7th – 2018 & 6th – 2019, 2017 IHSAA Sectional Championship Team, 2017 & 2018 & 2019 Circle City Conference Champion Team.
