Shaun Richardson enters his first season as Roncalli’s head wrestling coach. Richardson spent 19 seasons coaching in Perry Meridian’s wrestling program at a variety of levels, with the last six coming as a high school varsity assistant. In his six varsity coaching seasons at Perry Meridian, the Falcons finished in the state’s top 10 five times, capped by a third-place finish in 2021.
Richardson graduated from Perry Meridian in 1998. He finished as the Indiana high school state-runner up in the 119-pound class in 1998, after winning an individual state title in South Carolina earlier in his high school career. He wrestled at the University of Indianapolis before graduating from Indiana University. Richardson and his wife, Melinda, have three kids. Their daughter Lucy plays volleyball and softball and their sons Jack and Will are future high school wrestlers.
Cayden Whitaker is in his first season with the Roncalli wrestling program. He was a two-time wrestling state place-winner at Martinsville High School, capped by a third-place finish in the 160-pound class as a senior in 2016. He also won conference, sectional, regional and semi-state titles as a senior. He went on to wrestle four seasons at the University of Indianapolis. Last season, he served as the broadcast voice for the university’s wrestling team.
Shawn Slaymon enters his first season with the Roncalli wrestling program. He wrestled at Franklin Central High School and graduated in 2002. After graduation, he went on to study at Purdue University, graduating in 2007 with a bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture. Slaymon started his coaching career with the Whiteland Wrestling Club. He coached there from 2007 through 2018, coaching at all levels, culminating with an assistant coach position at Whiteland High School. In 2018, he accepted a role with Greenwood Wrestling, coaching all levels from 2018 through 2021. Slaymon and his wife Jennifer reside in Greenwood with their three children: Lily, Evie and Ty.
