Wade McClurg is entering his fifth season as head wrestling coach at Roncalli High School. McClurg is looking to build off the success that Roncalli has experienced in his first four seasons leading the program. The program has amassed a 69-13 dual meet record, won four Circle City Conference titles, a sectional title and a semi-state championship. The program has had an athlete in a state championship match in four straight years, producing three state champions and two runner ups. There have been 15 wrestlers qualify for the state finals, with 13 becoming state medalists. Additionally, there have been four straight top 20 team finishes in the state finals (17th in 2017, eighth in 2018, sixth in 2019 and fifth in 2020), three straight appearances in the IHSWCA 3A Team State Duals (seventh place in 2018, sixth in 2019 and ninth in 2020). There have been 24 Academic All-State Selections, multiple regular season tournament championships and numerous wrestlers have gone on to wrestle in college.
Last season, McClurg and his staff lead Roncalli to a 19-3 regular season dual meet record and finished the season ranked seventh in the state. The team was conference champions, finished ninth at the IHSWCA Team State Duals, sectional runner-ups, third place at regional and semi-state and fifth in the state finals for the program’s eighth Top 10 State Finish. In a season full of team accomplishments, Roncalli had four IHSAA State Finalists. Brayden Lowery was the state champion at 126 lbs and Alec Viduya became the school's first two-time state champion by winning at 145 lbs. Bryce Lowery finished fourth at 106 lbs, and Sam Slivka was a qualifier at 132 lbs.
McClurg is a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach. He is the President and head coach of the wrestling club, Roncalli Wrestling Foundation. The Roncalli Wrestling Foundation has consistently had numerous athletes competing and doing very well at the local, state, regional and national levels. He has been a member of the Indiana State Wrestling Association’s National Team Staff since 2008. McClurg was selected by his peers as the 2013 ISWA Coach of the Year.
Prior to coming to Roncalli, McClurg served as an assistant coach for eight years. He worked with many of the state and the country’s best athletes from 2008-2013 as an assistant coach at the club-level at the Central Indiana Academy of Wrestling. McClurg then moved on to Carmel High School from 2013 to 2016, where he mentored seven state qualifiers, three state medalists and the team won two sectional and two regional titles. McClurg also played a large role in helping build Carmel USA Wrestling Club into one of the biggest and best clubs in the state during his time there.
A 2008 graduate of Beech Grove High School, McClurg continued his education at the University of Indianapolis and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
He and his wife Ashley (R ’08) reside in Franklin Township and are parishioners at St. Roch. They have a daughter, Adelynn Grace, and a Goldendoodle named Bear.
Head Assistant Coach
Bryce Martin is entering his second year as head assistant coach for the Roncalli wrestling program. Martin has brought a high-level mentality and strong work-ethic to the entire wrestling team at Roncalli and he works very closely with the middleweights. Martin is also actively involved in working with the youth and middle school wrestling programs at the Roncalli Wrestling Foundation and is a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach. He wrestled for Bakersfield High School in California, where he was a four-time varsity letter winner. He was a four-time league champion, a two-time divisional champion and a two-time state medalist, finishing fourth as a junior and second as a senior year. During his prep career, he earned the following honors: USAW Junior Freestyle All-American, USAW Folkstyle All-American, NHSCA All-American. After high school, Martin wrestled at Indiana University, where he started all four years for the Hoosiers. Martin was a two-time Big Ten Championship place-winner, as well as a two-time NCAA Division 1 Championships qualifier, compiling a career record of 89-52. Martin works as a school teacher, and his wife Morgan is currently attending graduate school at Indiana University.
Coach Riley McClurg is a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach, who has been deeply involved with the sport of wrestling his entire life. McClurg is the son of Jeff and Apryl McClurg and he has two older brothers Kyle and Wade. After four knee surgeries and a career-ending spinal fusion in 2017 that forced him to walk away from competition for life, McClurg discovered his love and passion for coaching the sport of wrestling. He has been an assistant wrestling coach at Roncalli High School and the Roncalli Wrestling Foundation since 2016 and was previously the Owner/Head Coach of The Indy Speed Wrestling Factory in 2019. McClurg has been a member of the Indiana State Wrestling Association’s National Team Staff since 2017 and this includes the role of Assistant Team Leader for the 2018 Schoolboy Duals. He graduated from Perry Meridian High School in 2013 and then received his B.S. in Management from the Byrum School of Business at Marian University in 2018. McClurg currently resides on the southside of Indianapolis. He loves to spend time with his family, friends and play golf when the weather is permitting.

College Wrestling Accomplishments: Career record of 21-9. Wrestled under 1990-91 NCAA Division 1 All-American and former wrestler of Dan Gable, Steve Martin, at Old Dominion University. During the off-season, McClurg and teammates would travel with coach Martin, implementing the Granby School of Wrestling. Spent his first collegiate wrestling season at Purdue in the Big Ten, then transferred to ODU and wrestled there for three years, before spending his final season at Marian University in Indianapolis under head coach Steven Bradley.
High School Coaching Accomplishments: Has been instrumental in the 69 dual meet wins as an assistant coach these past four seasons, Mentored 15 IHSAA State Qualifiers, 13 IHSAA State Place Winners, 2 IHSAA State Runner-Ups, 3 IHSAA State Champions, IHSAA Team State Finishes (8th in 2018, 6th in 2019, 5th in 2020), IHSWCA 3A State Duals (7th in 2018, 6th in 2019, 9th in 2020), 2017 IHSAA Sectional Champions, 2019 IHSAA Semi-State Champions, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020 Circle City Conference Champions.
Coach Blackwell is entering his seventh season as an assistant coach for the Roncalli wrestling program. Blackwell has been crucial in all of the recent success that Roncalli has experienced at all levels in the program, but specifically he has played a large role in the development the upperweights. He is a 2008 Roncalli graduate and wrestled for four years. He earned three varsity wrestling letters and qualified for semi-state twice. He finished his high school career with a third-place finish at the IHSAA State Finals, during his senior year in 2008. After high school, Blackwell wrestled for the Greyhounds at the University of Indianapolis. Most recently, he served his country in the Navy. He currently resides in Indianapolis, is a parishioner at Holy Name and works as a firefighter for the Indianapolis Fire Department. Blackwell also coaches at the club level for the Roncalli Wrestling Foundation and is a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach.
Jake Jones is entering his first season as an assistant coach for the Roncalli wrestling program. Jones has been involved in wrestling for the last 35 years in the Indianapolis and surrounding areas. He graduated from Decatur Central and is a Production Supervisor at Allison Transmission. His wife Melissa is a physician assistant at Urology of Indiana. They have two boys, Dalton and Declan, and both will be wrestling for the Roncalli Wrestling Foundation and St. Barnabas this season. His family currently resides in Plainfield.
Jones has worked in three high school programs: Cascade, Speedway, and most recently at Plainfield. At each of these schools, Jones was instrumental in developing and mentoring 11 IHSAA State Finalists and six IHSAA State Medalists. He is also involved at the club level for the Roncalli Wrestling Foundation and is a USA Wrestling Copper and Bronze Certified Coach.
