Katie Lynch-Live. Laugh, Love Memorial Scholarship

Katie Lynch was a member of the Class of 2012. Her dream was to be a Roncalli Rebel but one month into her freshman year Katie was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She endured 3 years of treatments, hospital stays and transplants. Katie passed away on May 20, 2011 – a day that will never be forgotten to those who walked the halls of Roncalli High School. This $750 scholarship is made possible by the many family and friends whose lives Katie touched so deeply.

Katie was not defined by her illness but instead lived to be a "normal" teenager. She loved nothing more than going to school and being with her friends. She loved to laugh, sing, and dance and had a smile that could light up any room. Katie didn't care if you were the captain of the football team or a shy kid who kept to yourself – she would seek you out and instantly become your friend. She left a lasting impression on people as a quick-witted, happy, fun-loving teenager who loved life and had a way of bringing out the best in people. Anyone who knew Katie knew how important her family was to her and how much she loved spending time with them. Katie's friends were her life-line, especially during her illness, giving her the "normalcy" that she wanted so badly.

A student must submit:

  • an application form
  • minimum of one recommendation letter from friends/classmates which includes the following: Explain how your friend/classmate embraces Roncalli High School and models his/her life as Katie did: Live Well – Laugh Often – Love Always.
